Tirujnanasambandhar (7th Century A.D.)—Tirujnanasambandhar is the infant prodigy among the mystic saints of India. He lived only for a short period of 16 years, but during his short life he demosntrated an intensity of spiritual illumination and God-intoxication attained by very few other saints.

Tirujnanasambandhar was born in Sirkazhi, a place near Kumbhakonam, in Tanjavur district of Tamil Nadu, India. He received his spiritual illumination miraculously at the tender age of three and thereafter there was no stopping him from visiting the various temples, singing devotional hymns to his chosen Deity: Lord Siva, the Auspicious One, and performing miracles wherever he went.

Tirujnanasambandhar has composed 383 hymns in which he sang of the temples he visited and the glory and grace of God. This mystic saint’s approuch to God is like that of a son to his father. These hymns are known as Tevaarmas or garlands for God.
