1) To despise, contemn आत्मनश्च पेरषां च यः समीक्ष्य बलाबलम् । अन्तरं नैव जानाति स तिर- स्क्रियतेऽरिभिः (ātmanaśca peraṣāṃ ca yaḥ samīkṣya balābalam | antaraṃ naiva jānāti sa tira- skriyate'ribhiḥ) || H.3.8; Bhaṭṭikāvya 9.62.
2) To blame, scold, abuse; गीर्भिर्गुरूणां परुषाक्षराभिस्तिरस्कृता यान्ति नरा महत्त्वम् (gīrbhirgurūṇāṃ paruṣākṣarābhistiraskṛtā yānti narā mahattvam) Bv.1.73.
3) To surpass, excel (stanadvayaṃ) तिरश्चकार भ्रमरा- मिलीनयोः सुजातयोः पङ्कजकोशयोः श्रियम् (tiraścakāra bhramarā- milīnayoḥ sujātayoḥ paṅkajakośayoḥ śriyam) R.3.8.
4) To cover, conceal तिरस्क्रियन्ते कृमितन्तुजालैर्विच्छिन्नधूमप्रसरा गवाक्षाः (tiraskriyante kṛmitantujālairvicchinnadhūmaprasarā gavākṣāḥ) R. 16.2; Manusmṛti 4.49; Amaruśataka 81.
