Tinakā (तिनका) [Also spelled tinka]:—(nm) a straw; —[toḍanā] lit. to break a straw—to safeguard a dear one against an evil eye; —[dāṃtoṃ meṃ dabānā/pakaḍanā] to beg for mercy; —[taka na ṭālanā/toḍanā/hilānā] not to lift/stir even a finger, not to do a hand’s turn; [tinake kā sahārā, ḍūbate ko] a drowning man catches at a straw; [tinake kā sahārā lenā] to hang on by the eyelids; [tinake kī oṭa pahāḍa] lit. a hill hidden behind a straw—a big secret hidden under an apparent trifle.
