Source: DDSA: The Molesworth Marathi and English Dictionarythōpaṇēṃ (थोपणें).—v c To stop; to bring to a stand: also to stay or support; to keep still or in statu quo. 2 To help, assist, aid. 3 To set down (a palanquin, dooley, sling-load &c.): also to raise or take it up. This double sense (of setting and lifting) so familiar amongst bearers (although not confined to this class) arises probably (at least the second of the two) from the sense above To help; as, in lifting, the men of free shoulder come to the help of the men engaged. 4 To pat lightly. thōpūna rākhaṇēṃ-ṭhēvaṇēṃ-dharaṇēṃ To maintain, uphold, or stay (a kingdom, establishment, man, beast, thing) in its state, character, place.
