Tharmāmīṭaru (ಥರ್ಮಾಮೀಟರು):—[noun] an instrument for measuring temperatures, consisting of a graduated, sealed glass tube with a capillary bore that has mercury or coloured alcohol, which rises or falls with temperature changes, the temperature being determined from the graduated scale on the tube where the top of the column of the liquid coincides; a thermometer.
