Source: Wisdom Library: Āyurveda and botanyTejogni (तेजोग्नि, “fire of heat”):—One of the five elemental fires (bhutāgni).—A Sanskrit technical term from Āyurveda (Indian medicine) and used in literature such the Carakasaṃhitā and the Suśrutasaṃhitā. This ‘fire’, or, agnī, is related to tejas (the fire element) and is responsible for nourishing (providing subtle atoms to) the sense organ of sight in the eyes.
Āyurveda (आयुर्वेद, ayurveda) is a branch of Indian science dealing with medicine, herbalism, taxology, anatomy, surgery, alchemy and related topics. Traditional practice of Āyurveda in ancient India dates back to at least the first millenium BC. Literature is commonly written in Sanskrit using various poetic metres.
