Source: Wisdom Library: Nāṭya-śāstraTārasthāna (तारस्थान, “high voice”) refers to one of three “voices” (sthāna). According to the Nāṭyaśāstra, these three voices are part of the ‘vocal representation’ (vācika), which is used in communicating the meaning of the drama and calling forth the sentiment (rasa). The term is used throughout nāṭyaśāstra literature.
The high (tāra) voice is to be produced from the chest.
Natyashastra (नाट्यशास्त्र, nāṭyaśāstra) refers to both the ancient Indian tradition (shastra) of performing arts, (natya—theatrics, drama, dance, music), as well as the name of a Sanskrit work dealing with these subjects. It also teaches the rules for composing Dramatic plays (nataka), construction and performance of Theater, and Poetic works (kavya).
