A clean sweep-out; a complete riddance; a thorough emptying (of a house or room). 2 A thorough investigation; a sifting and searching to the bottom. 3 Devouring all the provisions set before one; making clear work; clearing the decks: also consumed or exhausted state (of provisions or of materials gen.) 4 Clearing or cleansing (by removal of filth or rubbish, or by performance of certain rites) of a place on which it is intended to build, to cook, to sacrifice &c. 5 Searching of a place of encampment or temporary lodging upon moving away from it.
