太谷燈 [tài gǔ dēng] [tai gu deng]—
Lighting fixtures (燈具 [deng ju]) used for lighting cigarettes (點煙 [dian yan]) are produced in 太谷 [tai gu] (Taigu), 山西 [shan xi] (Shanxi). In Chapter 12 (第一二回 [di yi er hui]) of The Travels of Lao Can, Second Series (《老殘遊記二編 [lao can you ji er bian]》): "What is a '(Taigu lamp)'? Because 山西人 [shan xi ren] (Shanxi people) have the most wealthy people (財主 [cai zhu]), and yet everyone smokes (吃煙 [chi yan]), the smoking paraphernalia (煙具 [yan ju]) there is more exquisite than in other provinces (別省 [bie sheng])."
太谷燈：山西太谷出產用以點煙的燈具。《老殘遊記二編》第一二回：「怎樣叫做『太谷燈』呢？因為山西人財主最多，卻又人人吃煙，所以那裡煙具比別省都精緻。」
