Tadāditadantanyāya (तदादितदन्तन्याय).—The rule according to which when an उत्कर्ष (utkarṣa) of a detail is laid down what is meant is that one should have उत्कर्ष (utkarṣa) not of that particular detail alone but of all the details beginning with that detail. In the case of अपकर्ष (apakarṣa), however, there will be अपकर्ष (apakarṣa) not of that particular detail alone, but of all the details ending with it; तदादि उत्कर्षे तदन्तमपकर्षे गम्येत (tadādi utkarṣe tadantamapakarṣe gamyeta) | SB. on MS.5.1.24.
