Svayambhūmūrti (स्वयम्भूमूर्ति) refers to “spontaneously produced icons”.—According to Bonazzoli, “At all levels—iconographic, cultic, philosophical, literary, mythical—Liṅga and Devī have often been directly connected and interrelated. [...] The parallelism between them is so narrow that even at the practical level ‘aniconic stones’ can represent Śiva Liṅgas and stone blocks are venerated as ‘Devī’s Svayambhūmūrtis [spontaneously produced icons). [...]”.
