Source: archive.org: Shiva Purana - English TranslationSvālaya (स्वालय) refers to “one’s own abode”, according to the Śivapurāṇa 2.3.31 (“Description of Śiva’s magic”).—Accordingly, after Śiva (in disguise of a Brahmin) spoke to the Lord of Mountains: “Saying this, the brahmin stopped. He took food and left the place with pleasure for his abode (svālaya). Śiva is one who quietly indulges in His divine sports”.
The Purana (पुराण, purāṇas) refers to Sanskrit literature preserving ancient India’s vast cultural history, including historical legends, religious ceremonies, various arts and sciences. The eighteen mahapuranas total over 400,000 shlokas (metrical couplets) and date to at least several centuries BCE.
