Suvimuktacitta (सुविमुक्तचित्त) is a title given to the Bhikṣus that accompanied the Buddha when he went to Gṛdhrakūṭaparvata at Rājagṛha according to Mahāprajñāpāramitāśāstra (chapter VI).

Why are they Suvimuktacitta and Suvimuktaprajña?

1) The heretics (tīrthika) who have renounced pleasure (virakta) acquire liberation of mind on one single point and by a single path, but they are not freed from all the obstacles (āvaraṇa). This is why the Arhats alone are called Suvimuktacitta and Suvimuktaprajña.

2) Furthermore, the Arhats have acquired liberation of mind by a twofold path: the path of seeing the truths and the path of meditation; this is why they are called Suvimuktacitta. As for the Śaikṣas, while they have acquired deliverance of mind, they are not yet completely liberated because they still retain a residue of the fetters (saṃyojana).
