Source: archive.org: Shiva Purana - English TranslationSundararūpa (सुन्दररूप) refers to the “(real) handsome form (of Śiva)”, according to the Śivapurāṇa 2.3.44 (“Menā regains consciousness”).—Accordingly, Nārada said to Menā: “The real handsome form (sundararūpa—suṃdaraṃ rūpaṃ) of Śiva is not known by you. This form is assumed by Śiva in a sportive mood. It is not the real form. Hence, O chaste lady, cast off anger. Be calm. Leave off your obduracy. Do what is proper to be done. Give Pārvatī to Śiva”.
The Purana (पुराण, purāṇas) refers to Sanskrit literature preserving ancient India’s vast cultural history, including historical legends, religious ceremonies, various arts and sciences. The eighteen mahapuranas total over 400,000 shlokas (metrical couplets) and date to at least several centuries BCE.
