sulatānī (सुलतानी).—f ( P) A species of grape. It is large, round, white, watery, and acid. 2 Evil proceeding from kings or governments; oppressive and tyrannical measures, or the devastations and ravages whether of the public forces in their marches, or of the public enemy in his irruptions. The word is mostly used in letters, petitions, and other writings, and is opposed to āsmānī (calamitous visitations from Heaven, as drought, deluge, lightning). It is used also as a, conjoined with the word āphata or āpata, from the Persian .
