Source: Pali Kanon: Pali Proper NamesUncle of Abhayanaga. Abhayanaga had Subhadevas hands and feet cut off and left him behind, that he might bring about division in the kingdom of Voharika Tissa.
When the time was come, he sent word to Abhayanaga, and the latter seized the throne. Mhv.xxxvi.45f.; MT.663.
Theravāda is a major branch of Buddhism having the the Pali canon (tipitaka) as their canonical literature, which includes the vinaya-pitaka (monastic rules), the sutta-pitaka (Buddhist sermons) and the abhidhamma-pitaka (philosophy and psychology).
