蘇揭多 [su jie duo]—Sugata — [Term (術語 [shu yu])] Sugata, formerly known as Xiugatuo (修伽陀 [xiu jia tuo]), Xiugadu (修伽度 [xiu jia du]), Xiugaduo (修伽多 [xiu jia duo]), Shagatuo (莎伽陀 [sha jia tuo]), etc. Newly called Sujieduo or Suogeduo (索蘗多 [suo bo duo]). Translated as "Well-Gone" (善逝 [shan shi]). It is one of the ten titles of the Tathāgata (如來 [ru lai]). It means to depart from the ocean of birth and death and never return. Xuanying's Yinyi (玄應音義 [xuan ying yin yi]), Vol. 21, states: "Sujieduo was formerly said to be Xiugatuo (修伽陀 [xiu jia tuo]), or written as Xiugadu (修伽度 [xiu jia du]), or as Xiugaduo (修伽多 [xiu jia duo]). This means 'Well-Gone' (善逝 [shan shi]), and it is one of the virtuous titles of the Tathāgata (如來 [ru lai]). It has three meanings: 1. commendation, 2. non-returning, 3. perfection." Huilin's Yinyi (慧琳音義 [hui lin yin yi]), Vol. 10, states: "The correct pronunciation is Suogeduo (索蘗多 [suo bo duo])." Name of a Bhikkhu (比丘 [bi qiu]). Shizongji (飾宗記 [shi zong ji]), Vol. 6, states: "Sujieduo here means 'Well-Come' (善來 [shan lai]), which is Shagatuo (莎伽陀 [sha jia tuo])."
蘇揭多—【術語】Sugata,舊稱修伽陀,修伽度,修伽多,莎伽陀等。新稱,蘇揭多,索蘗多。譯曰善逝。如來十號之一。去生死海而不再回來也。玄應音義二十一曰:「蘇揭多,舊言修伽陀,或作修伽度,或作修伽多,此云善逝,即如來德之一號也。有三義:一讚嘆,二不迴,三圓滿也。」慧琳音義十曰:「正音索蘗多。」
