Stanyajanana (स्तन्यजनन) is the Sanskrit name for a group of medicinal plants, classified as “galactiphorous”, and originally composed by Caraka in his Carakasaṃhitā sūtrasthāna IV. The name is derived from the words stanya, translating to “breast milk”, and janana, translating to “generating” or “producing”. It is a technical term used throughout Āyurveda. Examples of plants pertaining to this category include Vīraṇa (Andropogon muricatum), Śāli (paddy), Ṣaṣṭika (paddy), Darbha (Saccharum cylindricum) and Kuśa (Poa cynosuroides). The collection of herbs named Stanyajanana is one of the fifty Mahākaṣāya.
