Stala is one of the terms designating an ‘administrative division’ used in the inscriptions of Andhra Pradesh.—In the Kakatiya inscriptions it occurs as stala and not stala. It denotes a small unit, usually a sub-division, equivalent to a pargana. The entire Kakatiya dominion was, according to the available evidence, divided into nadus which were sub-divided into several stalas. In spite of the fact that the known Kakatiya inscriptions do not directly refer to the parent divisions of the stalas, the latter were undoubtedly sub-divisions of nadus in the Kakatiyas administrative setup.
