Sphurj (स्फुर्ज्) or Sphūrj (स्फूर्ज्).—1 P. (sphūrjati)

1) To thunder, make a sound like thunder-clap, crash, explode; अस्फूर्जीद्गिरिशृङ्गं च व्यस्राक्षीद्गन्धमादनः (asphūrjīdgiriśṛṅgaṃ ca vyasrākṣīdgandhamādanaḥ) Bhaṭṭikāvya 15.44.

2) To glitter, shine.

3) To burst or break forth; स्फूर्जत्येव स एष संप्रति मम न्यक्कार- भिन्नस्थितेः (sphūrjatyeva sa eṣa saṃprati mama nyakkāra- bhinnasthiteḥ) Mv.3.4.
