Source: archive.org: Syainika Sastra of Rudradeva with English Translation (art)Śyainalakṣaṇa (श्यैनलक्षण) refers to the “characteristics of hawks”, according to the Śyainika-śāstra: a Sanskrit treatise dealing with the divisions and benefits of Hunting and Hawking, written by Rājā Rudradeva (or Candradeva) in possibly the 13th century.—Accordingly, “[Hunting by Hawking] is to be practised in various ways, namely, by inspiring the hawks with confidence, by observing their characteristics (śyainalakṣaṇa-lakṣitā) and by practising the different ways of throwing or casting them. The casting is of two kinds—Hastamoka and Muṣṭimoka. [...]”.
