Source: Brill: Śaivism and the Tantric Traditions (architecture)Śvānāsthi (श्वानास्थि) refers to the “bone of a dog”, according to the Devyāmata (in the section śalyoddhāra-paṭala or “excavation of extraneous substances”).—Accordingly, “[...] If a cat [intrudes into the site] stepping over [a cord] while a cord is being cast, it should be understood that there is the bone of an ass beneath that spot of the site. If a dog steps over a cord, [the officiant] should prognosticate the bone of a dog (śvānāsthi) [beneath] the [spot of the site]. [...]”.
