Source: archive.org: Shiva Purana - English TranslationŚūladhṛk (शूलधृक्) refers to “taking up one’s trident (during a battle)”, according to the Śivapurāṇa 2.4.8 (“The battle between the gods and Asuras”).—Accordingly, after Vīrabhadra spoke to Nārada: “[...] Saying thus and taking up his trident (śūladhṛk), Vīrabhadra mentally meditated on Śiva and fought with Tāraka, accompanied by Pramathas. [...]”.
The Purana (पुराण, purāṇas) refers to Sanskrit literature preserving ancient India’s vast cultural history, including historical legends, religious ceremonies, various arts and sciences. The eighteen mahapuranas total over 400,000 shlokas (metrical couplets) and date to at least several centuries BCE.
