śuklakāṣṭha (शुक्लकाष्ठ) [or शक्लेंकाष्ठ, śaklēṅkāṣṭha].—n (Ignorantly from śuṣkakāṣṭha A dry stick as a clog for cattle) A term for a person considered as a pest, plague, or encumbrance; for a business or an affair considered as a difficulty, dilemma, embarrassment, stigma &c; which cleaves to or pursues one whithersoever he goes, or to which one has subjected himself needlessly. v lāvūna ghē. 2 Membrum virile. 3 A term for Stocks. Ex. bōlāyālā gēlēṃ supāṣṭa pāyīṃ paḍalēṃ śuklēṅkāṣṭha. The example is from a tale of a female who, through endeavoring to speak in splendid or fine style, (supāṣṭa is her amusing improvement upon spaṣṭa,) brought upon her husband the prison and the stocks.
