Source: Wisdom Library: Nāṭya-śāstraŚuddharāga (शुद्धराग) is defined as “the rāga having the form of Śiva”, according to Umāpati in his 9th century Aumāpatam (exposition on music and dance). Merged with sālaga-rāgas, they become known as saṅkīrṇa. Umāpati mentions 36 śuddha-rāgas; among them are mentioned Nāgadhvani, Taraṅgiṇī, Ābhīri, etc.
Natyashastra (नाट्यशास्त्र, nāṭyaśāstra) refers to both the ancient Indian tradition (shastra) of performing arts, (natya—theatrics, drama, dance, music), as well as the name of a Sanskrit work dealing with these subjects. It also teaches the rules for composing Dramatic plays (nataka), construction and performance of Theater, and Poetic works (kavya).
