Śuddharāga (शुद्धराग) is defined as “the rāga having the form of Śiva”, according to Umāpati in his 9th century Aumāpatam (exposition on music and dance). Merged with sālaga-rāgas, they become known as saṅkīrṇa. Umāpati mentions 36 śuddha-rāgas; among them are mentioned Nāgadhvani, Taraṅgiṇī, Ābhīri, etc.
