Expressed to Kṛṣṇa the desire to rid the palmyra grove of Asura Dhenuka. Being victor in a game, he had the honour of being borne on the back by Kṛṣṇa;1 was placed by Śiva on his lap as a token of affection.2

The Purana (पुराण, purāṇas) refers to Sanskrit literature preserving ancient India’s vast cultural history, including historical legends, religious ceremonies, various arts and sciences. The eighteen mahapuranas total over 400,000 shlokas (metrical couplets) and date to at least several centuries BCE.
