Śīpraka (शीप्रक) refers to a “nacre” (i.e. a pearl-oyster), as occurring in the Anekāntajayapatākā-prakaraṇa, a Śvetāmbara Jain philosophical work written by Haribhadra Sūri.—[Cf. Vol. I, P. 209, l. 11]—Here the word ‘śīpraka’ is given as a synonym of ‘śukti’ meaning a nacre i.e. a pearl-oyster. But I do not find this word m any of the dictionaries available to me. It seems the Gujarati word ‘chīpa’ is derived from this word ‘śīpraka’.

context information

Sanskrit, also spelled संस्कृतम् (saṃskṛtam), is an ancient language of India commonly seen as the grandmother of the Indo-European language family (even English!). Closely allied with Prakrit and Pali, Sanskrit is more exhaustive in both grammar and terms and has the most extensive collection of literature in the world, greatly surpassing its sister-languages Greek and Latin.
