Śilukṣa (शिलुक्ष).—(?) , name of a place (adhiṣṭhāna, nigama) where Trapuṣa and Bhallika built a stūpa for the stones used by Buddha in washing a robe: Mahāvastu iii.310.15 (adhiṣṭhāna; here mss. śilujvaṃ, śilahvaṃ); 313.2 (śilukṣa-nāma- nigama); but in the next line, adyāpi gandhārarājye adhiṣṭhānaṃ śilā-nāmena jñāyati; compare śilahvaṃ of one ms. above; I suspect that Śilāhvaya should be read, having the name of Stone(s).

context information

Sanskrit, also spelled संस्कृतम् (saṃskṛtam), is an ancient language of India commonly seen as the grandmother of the Indo-European language family (even English!). Closely allied with Prakrit and Pali, Sanskrit is more exhaustive in both grammar and terms and has the most extensive collection of literature in the world, greatly surpassing its sister-languages Greek and Latin.
