逝多林 [shi duo lin]—(Shìduōlín) — [Place name] Jetavana, formerly known as 祇陀林 [qi tuo lin] (Qítuólín) or 祇洹林 [qi huan lin] (Qíhuánlín). It was originally the grove owned by Prince 逝多太子 [shi duo tai zi] (Shìduō Tàizǐ), hence it was called . The Elder 須達長者 [xu da zhang zhe] (Xūdá Zhǎngzhě) purchased it and built a 精舍 [jing she] (jīngshè) (monastery/vihāra) to offer to the Buddha. This is the 祇洹精舍 [qi huan jing she] (Qíhuán Jīngshè). Book 6 of the 西域記 [xi yu ji] (Xīyùjì) states: "(Jetavana). In Tang Chinese, it means 勝林 [sheng lin] (Shènglín) (Victorious Grove). The old name 祇陀 [qi tuo] (Qítuó) is a mistake."
