生淨土法八 [sheng jing tu fa ba]—Eight Dharmas for Birth in the Pure Land — [Enumeration] Vimalakīrti (維摩居士 [wei mo ju shi]), in response to the question from Bodhisattva All Fragrances (眾香菩薩 [zhong xiang pu sa]) of the Land of All Fragrances (眾香國 [zhong xiang guo]), explained that by accomplishing eight dharmas in this world, one can be born in the Pure Land (淨土 [jing tu]): 1. Benefiting sentient beings (饒益眾生 [rao yi zhong sheng]) without expecting recompense, enduring all suffering and afflictions on behalf of all sentient beings, and dedicating all accrued merits to them. 2. Having a mind equal to all sentient beings, being humble and unhindered. 3. Regarding all Bodhisattvas (菩薩 [pu sa]) as Buddhas. 4. Not doubting when hearing sūtra texts that have not been heard before. 5. Not contradicting the Śrāvakas (聲聞 [sheng wen]). 6. Not being jealous of others' offerings, not exalting one's own benefits, and therein taming one's mind. 7. Constantly examining one's own faults and not speaking of others' shortcomings. 8. Always seeking all merits with a single mind. See the Chapter on the Fragrant Accumulation (香積品 [xiang ji pin]) of the Vimalakīrti Nirdeśa Sūtra (維摩經 [wei mo jing]).
