One of the distinguishing marks of the Hindu. 2 A crest, comb, topknot. 3 The tail of a comet. 4 The forelock of a horse. 5 The crown-board over a lāṭa (roller of oilmill, sugarmill &c.) śēṇḍī phuṭaṇēṃ in. con. (To get a shenḍi.) To have the expenses to exceed the estimate; to get a tail tacked on (to a bill &c.) śēṇḍī sāmpaḍaṇēṃ or guntaṇēṃ (hātīṃ g. of o. & g. of s.) To fall into the clutches or power of: also to be caught a little; to get one's tail entangled. śēṇḍīsa phulēṃ bāndhaṇēṃ g. of o.
