2) 神明 [shen ming]—The spirits of heaven and earth, the gods; also the intelligent or spiritual nature.

神明 [shen ming]—(shénmíng) — [術語 [shu yu] (shùyǔ)] Refers to 天神地祇 [tian shen de qi] (tiānshén dìqí), heavenly gods and earthly spirits. That which is 不測 [bu ce] (bùcè) (unfathomable) is called shen (神 [shen]), and that which is 靈明 [ling ming] (língmíng) (spiritually bright) like a mirror is called ming (明 [ming]).
The 無量壽經 [wu liang shou jing] (Wúliàngshòu Jīng) (Sutra of Immeasurable Life), lower volume, states: "The sun and moon illuminate, and remembers and perceives [記識 [ji shi] (jìshí)]."
The 賢劫經 [xian jie jing] (Xiánjié Jīng) (Bhadrakalpa Sutra), volume 1, states: "All 諸天 [zhu tian] (zhūtiān) (heavenly) , humans and non-humans, cherish and revere supreme virtue."
The 藥師經 [yao shi jing] (Yàoshī Jīng) (Medicine Buddha Sutra) states: "Presenting explanations to , summoning all 魍魎 [wang liang] (wǎngliǎng) (goblins/demons)."
The 大方等陀羅尼經 [da fang deng tuo luo ni jing] (Dàfāngděng Tuóluóní Jīng) (Mahavaipulya Dharani Sutra), volume 1, states: "One should take as a witness."
It also refers to the 識性 [shi xing] (shíxìng) (consciousness nature) of 眾生 [zhong sheng] (zhòngshēng) (sentient beings).
The 釋門歸敬儀 [shi men gui jing yi] (Shìmén Guījìng Yí) (Ritual of Homage and Reverence in Buddhism) states: "Opening the righteous path of , leading to the clear ford of the righteous path."

身命 [shen ming]—Body and Life—[General Term (雜語 [za yu])] My body (吾身 [wu shen]) and my lifespan (吾壽命 [wu shou ming]). The body is constituted by the Four Great Elements (四大 [si da]), and life is constituted by longevity (壽 [shou]), warmth (煗 [nuan]), and consciousness (識 [shi]). The Lotus Sutra (法華經 [fa hua jing]), Chapter on Encouraging Devotion (勸持品 [quan chi pin]), states: "I do not cherish my body and life, but only value the unsurpassed path (無上道 [wu shang dao])."
身命—【雜語】吾身與吾壽命也。身者以四大為體,命者以壽煗識為體。法華經勸持品曰:「我不愛身命,但惜無上道。」
