Source: DDSA: The Molesworth Marathi and English Dictionaryśēja (शेज).—f ē (śayyā S through H) A bed or bedding; anything spread as bedding. 2 The spot or streak formed on the forehead (as of a child at its marriage, thread-investiture &c.) with gandha, kuṅkūṃ, or other pigment; serving as a bed for akṣatā (grains of rice) to be stuck; the daub of kuṅkūṃ as a bed for akṣatā (on the forehead of people at weddings &c.) v bhara, lāva. Ex. asō sakaḷa ṛṣi miḷōni || śēja bharīta ubhayācī ||. 3 Applied by many to the makhara of the Muhammadan mourners in the Muharram. 4 f n Series, train, line, regular consecution or disposition. śējēsa ghālaṇēṃ To lay down together (the bridegroom and bride, after their having been united in marriage) that they may sleep or lie together. This particular of the nuptial observances is Konkan̤i and elsewhere, but it is not universal. śējēsa yēṇēṃ To lie down to sleep;--used esp. of a horse. 2 To granulate;--used of a healing wound or sore. śēja paḍaṇēṃ or lāgaṇēṃ g. of s. To be begun or entered upon;--as a work having distinct points to be attended to in order; to have the train or linecommenced.
