歙赩 [shè xì] [she xi]—
The appearance of a rich, vivid red color (赤色濃豔的樣子 [chi se nong yan de yang zi]). From Selections of Refined Literature (《文選 [wen xuan]》) by Wang Yanshou (王延壽 [wang yan shou]), Rhapsody on the Lingguang Palace of Lu (《魯靈光殿賦 [lu ling guang dian fu]》): "The bright walls (皓壁 [hao bi]) glisten (暠曜 [gao yao]) as if illuminated by the moon (以月照 [yi yue zhao]); the cinnabar pillars (丹柱 [dan zhu]) glow a brilliant red and flash like lightning (電烻 [dian yan])."
歙赩:赤色濃豔的樣子。《文選.王延壽.魯靈光殿賦》:「皓壁暠曜以月照,丹柱歙赩而電烻。」

Scared to the point of not daring to breathe. From Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio, Volume 11, King: "The assistant magistrate (州佐 [zhou zuo]) was terrified into silence, not daring to argue, and accepted the letter before returning."
慴息:害怕得不敢發出氣息。《聊齋志異.卷一一.王者》:「州佐慴息,不敢辨,受函而返。」
shè xī: hài pà dé bù gǎn fā chū qì xī. < liáo zhāi zhì yì. juǎn yī yī. wáng zhě>: “zhōu zuǒ shè xī, bù gǎn biàn, shòu hán ér fǎn.”
