Source: Wikisource: A dictionary of Sanskrit grammarṢatva (षत्व).—Change of the consonant स् (s) into ष् (ṣ) in certain conditions in the formation of a word, or after prepositions in the case of verbs beginning with स् (s). This cerebralization of स् (s) was a peculiar phonetic change which naturally occurred when स् (s) in utterance came after a vowel excepting अ.
