General definition (in Jainism)
Source: academia.edu: Tessitori Collection IṢaṭtriṃśikārūpārhadvijñapti (षट्त्रिंशिकारूपार्हद्विज्ञप्ति) is the name of a work by Gajasāra dealing with the Cosmology of Jain Canonical literature.—The Ṣaṭtriṃśikārūpārhadvijñapti (with interlinear Gujarati commentary) is included in the collection of manuscripts at the ‘Vincenzo Joppi’ library, collected by Luigi Pio Tessitori during his visit to Rajasthan between 1914 and 1919.—Note: the Gujarati commentary tends to spread in the margins as well. Up to 3r verses are numbered from 1 to 38, but the total of verses in the work amounts to 42 as verses numbered 9-10 and 16-17, which had been forgotten, have been written with their interlinear commentary on 3v. A cross on 1v1 and 1v5 indicates the place where the two pairs have to be inserted.
Jainism is an Indian religion of Dharma whose doctrine revolves around harmlessness (ahimsa) towards every living being. The two major branches (Digambara and Svetambara) of Jainism stimulate self-control (or, shramana, ‘self-reliance’) and spiritual development through a path of peace for the soul to progess to the ultimate goal.
