商店 [shāng diàn] [shang dian]—
A store that buys and sells goods. For example, "This place is lined with stores (- shāngdiàn), with a surging crowd, it's truly extraordinarily lively." From Twenty Years Witnessed Strange Happenings (二十年目睹之怪現狀 [er shi nian mu du zhi guai xian zhuang] - Èrshí Nián Mǔdǔ zhī Guài Xiànzhuàng), chapter 63: "His management methods are truly impressive, so each year seems better than the last, and he has stores (- shāngdiàn) at every wharf (碼頭 [ma tou] - mǎtou)."
