Source: Encyclopedia of Jainism: Tattvartha SutraSetara (सेतर, “opposite”).—What is the meaning of knowledge of opposites (setara)? Setara includes /implies the opposites of all the types of knowledge mentioned earlier in this aphorism e.g. one, one type, slow, visible, expressed and transitory.
according to the 2nd-century Tattvārthasūtra 1.16, “The subdivisions of each of these (kinds of mati, or ‘mind-based knowledge’) are: more, many kinds, quick, hidden, unexpressed, lasting, and their opposites (setara)”.
Jainism is an Indian religion of Dharma whose doctrine revolves around harmlessness (ahimsa) towards every living being. The two major branches (Digambara and Svetambara) of Jainism stimulate self-control (or, shramana, ‘self-reliance’) and spiritual development through a path of peace for the soul to progess to the ultimate goal.
