In the time of Vipassi Buddha he, was a learned brahmin, and, seeing the Buddha in the forest, offered him sereyyaka (siriga) flowers, which formed a canopy over the Buddhas head. Fifteen kappas ago he was king twenty five times under the name of Cinamala. Ap.i.155; cf. Kassapa (ThagA.i.178).
Theravāda is a major branch of Buddhism having the the Pali canon (tipitaka) as their canonical literature, which includes the vinaya-pitaka (monastic rules), the sutta-pitaka (Buddhist sermons) and the abhidhamma-pitaka (philosophy and psychology).
