In Buddhism
Tibetan Buddhism (Vajrayana or tantric Buddhism)
sems phyogs (སེམས་ཕྱོགས) refers to the “mind-dependent” teachings of the Dzogchen.—The “mentality section” (sems-sde) of the rDzogs-chen teaching is divided into two major branches. The one is termed sems-yin, claiming that our experienced reality is mentation, the other is termed sems-phyogs claiming that our experienced reality is “mentation-related” or “mind-dependent”. For further details see Grub-mtha', pp. 353ff.
sems phyogs (སེམས་ཕྱོགས) refers to “mind orientation” and is associated with the Mind Section or Semde [sems sde] textual tradition (one of the scriptural divisions of Dzogchen).—Semde texts claim that striving for liberation through structured practices (like tantric visualization and ritual) creates more delusion. Instead, Semde works recommend simple contemplations to recognize the pure and empty awakened mind. [...] While the terms "Mind Section" [sems sde] and "Mind Orientation" [sems phyogs] are not attested prior to the 11th century (and are thus not found in the earliest Dzogchen texts), they are used by Tibetan and Western scholars retroactively to refer to a class of texts. The most of important of these are the "Eighteen Great Scriptures" [lung-chen bco-brgyad], which came be to called "mind series" [sems de] texts at a later date.

Tibetan Buddhism includes schools such as Nyingma, Kadampa, Kagyu and Gelug. Their primary canon of literature is divided in two broad categories: The Kangyur, which consists of Buddha’s words, and the Tengyur, which includes commentaries from various sources. Esotericism and tantra techniques (vajrayāna) are collected indepently.
