Source: Shodhganga: a concise history of Sanskrit Chanda literature (history)Sāvaṇadurga (सावणदुर्ग) or Śivagaṅgā is the name of a village in Karṇāṭaka to which Puṇḍarīkaviṭṭhala (16th century) was a native. Puṇḍarīkaviṭṭhala is a well known scholar in music as well as in Dharmaśāstra, Alaṅkāraśāstra and chandas. His erudite scholarship has touched the height of excellence, which can be judged only from his compositions. He belonged to Jāmadagnya-gotra and was the son of Dharma and Nāgā, native of Sāvaṇadurga (Śivagaṅgā) in Karṇāṭaka; migrated to north India. He was patronized by Burhānkhān of Ānandavallī, King Bhagavantadāsa and his son Mādhavasiṃha and Mānasiṃha.
