Source: Pali Kanon: Pali Proper NamesThe name given to the Catubhanavaratthakatha. It was written by a pupil of Ananda at the request of Vanaratana Thera of Ceylon. Published in Hewavitarne Bequest Series (Colombo), vol. xxvii.
Theravāda is a major branch of Buddhism having the the Pali canon (tipitaka) as their canonical literature, which includes the vinaya-pitaka (monastic rules), the sutta-pitaka (Buddhist sermons) and the abhidhamma-pitaka (philosophy and psychology).
