Source: Pali Kanon: Pali Proper NamesA Niraya in which those who die in battle are born (S.iv.311). The Commentary (SA.iii.100) says that it is not a distinctive purgatory, but a part of Avici, where fighters of all sorts fight in imagination. Cf. Saranjita.
Theravāda is a major branch of Buddhism having the the Pali canon (tipitaka) as their canonical literature, which includes the vinaya-pitaka (monastic rules), the sutta-pitaka (Buddhist sermons) and the abhidhamma-pitaka (philosophy and psychology).
