Source: What is India: Epigraphia Indica volume 4 (1896-97)Saṅkalāpura is a village 1½ miles east of Hosapēṭe (Hospet) and not far from the ruins of Vijayanagara in the Bellary district. Near the wall of the temple of Āñjanēya (Hanumat) stands a slab which is said to have been brought thither from the ruins of another, neighbouring temple. [...] The inscription records that Kṛṣṇarāya of Vijayanagara (A.D. 1510-1529) granted the village of Saṅkalāpura, where the slab still exists, to a temple of Gaṇapati, which was called Kōṭa-Vināyaka, i.e. ‘ the Vināyaka in the Fort, and which was situated “on the eastern side of the Dēvēri road in Vijayanagarī”. The village Saṅkalāpura was situated on the west of Aṅguḷika, on the north of Jambunātha, on the east of Nāgalāpurī, and on the south of Kāranūru.
