三種等流果 [san zhong deng liu guo]—Three Kinds of Homogeneous Results (等流果 [deng liu guo])
[Nomenclature] Homogeneous Results (等流果 [deng liu guo]) are classified into three types:
1. True Homogeneous Result (真等流果 [zhen deng liu guo]): As stated above, this refers to causes of good, evil, or neutral nature leading to results of the same kind (good, evil, or neutral).
2. False Homogeneous Result (假等流果 [jia deng liu guo]): For example, if one caused another to have a short lifespan by killing in a previous life, one consequently experiences a short lifespan oneself in this life. This is actually a retribution fruit (異熟果 [yi shu guo]), but because the meaning of a short lifespan is similar in both the preceding and succeeding instances, it is provisionally named a homogeneous result.
3. Positional Homogeneous Result (分位等流果 [fen wei deng liu guo]): For example, from the eye consciousness (眼識 [yan shi]) towards sound objects (聲境 [sheng jing]) up to the mind consciousness (意識 [yi shi]) towards dharma objects (法境 [fa jing]), all are results generated by the eighth consciousness (第八識 [di ba shi]). And where the eye consciousness and form objects (色境 [se jing]), up to the mind consciousness and dharma objects, have their respective objects and perceiving subjects interrelated, and the positions of both are the same.
