三摩拔提 [san mo ba ti]—(or 三摩跋提 [san mo ba ti]); 三摩越 [san mo yue] samāpatti, attainment, arrival; defined by 等至 [deng zhi] and 等持 [deng chi] which is intp. as complete dhyāna; similar to 三摩半那 [san mo ban na] samāpanna, attainment. Eitel says: "a degree of abstract ecstatic meditation preparatory to the final attainment of samādhi." Clough speaks of eight samāpattis, i.e. attainments— "eight successive states induced by the ecstatic meditation." v. also 三摩越 [san mo yue].
