Source: Shodhganga: Temples of Salem region Up to 1336 ADSamyuktastambha (सम्युक्तस्तम्भ).—This type of pillar (stambha) possesses a lofty shaft (daṇḍa) consisting of pillarets on its side or sides. Their number may vary from one to twelve. Depending upon the number of pillarets and their arrangement, they are named differently.

- supratīkānta (pillar with one pillaret),
- sūryakānta (pillar with two pillarets on either sides),
- brāhmaṇakānta (pillar with four pillarets at the four corners),

- nandīśakānta (pillar with two or four pillarets and is void of the main shaft).
