Source: Pali Kanon: Pali Proper NamesA vihara built by Mahadathika Mahanaga (Mhv.xxxiv.90), but a monk, called Mahanaga, is said to have lived in the Samudda vihara in the time of Dutthagamani (MT. 606). Probably Mahadathika only restored it.
Theravāda is a major branch of Buddhism having the the Pali canon (tipitaka) as their canonical literature, which includes the vinaya-pitaka (monastic rules), the sutta-pitaka (Buddhist sermons) and the abhidhamma-pitaka (philosophy and psychology).
