Sammūrcchana (सम्मूर्च्छन) refers to “spontaneous generation” and represents one of the three types of birth (janman, method of getting born), according to the 2nd-century Tattvārthasūtra 2.31. What is the meaning of spontaneous birth (sammūrcchana)? Acquisition by formation of the body, limbs etc. by the empirical soul by acquiring matter particles from the environment spontaneously are called spontaneous birth.

2) Congealing, becoming dense.

3) Thickening, increasing.

4) Height.

5) Universal pervasion, co-extension, complete permeation.

6) Mixing, union; जलौघसंमूर्च्छनमूर्च्छितस्वनः (jalaughasaṃmūrcchanamūrcchitasvanaḥ) Ki. 16.59.
