Saṃmodanīya (संमोदनीय).—adj. (= Pali id.), = prec.: °yaḥ Mahāvyutpatti 2942 (after saṃrañjanīyaḥ 2941); f. °yā, with kathā, Mahāvastu repeatedly, see s.v. saṃmodate, °dayati. In Karmavibhaṅga (and Karmavibhaṅgopadeśa) 27.1 text substitutes sukha-saṃbhāvanāyāṃ, which might be em. to °bhāvanāṃ, causing pleasure; but this is otherwise unrecorded in this cliché, and Lévi suggests in a note saṃmodanīyāṃ.

context information

Sanskrit, also spelled संस्कृतम् (saṃskṛtam), is an ancient language of India commonly seen as the grandmother of the Indo-European language family (even English!). Closely allied with Prakrit and Pali, Sanskrit is more exhaustive in both grammar and terms and has the most extensive collection of literature in the world, greatly surpassing its sister-languages Greek and Latin.
